Sunday 25th July (afternoon)
This afternoon the final of the GOSH Leinster Championships was fittingly contested by the two players who had both displayed exceptional golf throughout the three days of competition, Monique Smit and Louise Coffey. Louise got the early lead but Monique eagled the par 5 third hole to bring the match back to level. A tight contest ensued with Monique turning 1 up. Louise missed a chance to level the match on the 10th and Monique then moved up a gear and closed the match out on the 15th hole. Her accuracy off the tee and her chipping were of the highest quality throughout the match.
The Duggan Cup final saw the emergence of a bright new talent in Jenny Maguire (Foxrock). Her opposition was the local favourite Mai Tan (Dun Laoghaire) who had convincingly defeated some very strong contenders on her way to the final. Jenny had the extra length off the tee which proved a crucial element in the contest and was three up after nine. She increased her lead after the 10th and her excellent ball striking proved too good for her opposition and clinched the title on the 15th.
Sunday 25th July (morning)
Excellent golf was displayed in both semi final matches for the Leinster Championship this morning. Lucy Simpson and Louise Coffey traded birdies throughout their match with Louise taking control on the back nine. Impressive play from both players. The second semi final match brought together Aedin Murphy and Monique Smit. Monique was three up after three holes with sand saves on the 1st and 2nd and a birdie 2 on the 3rd giving her a strong lead that she never relinquished.
The first Duggan Cup semi final match between Maura Madden and Jenny Maguire was dominated by Jenny's steady play and she was 4 up at the turn. Jenny held on to her lead and finished out the match on the 14th. Mary Devine and Mai Tan, the local favourite from Dun Laoghaire contested the second semi final match and it was Mai's excellent putting that kept her ahead of Mary throughout the match winning in convincing style on the 15th hole.
